First Team knocked out of John Ripley Cup
The First Team where knocked out of the John Ripley Cup on board count by Widnes. Andreas did the honours stepping in on Board 1 for the absent Roger and drew with black on top board. Brendan had a nice win with black on Board 3 against a strong opponent to put us in the lead while Steve and Seb secured draws on the other boards. Martin had an exciting game on board 4 with two passed pawns for a Knight that looked very strong. The Knight however was enough to harras the White King with checks into a draw. This left the unfortunate Rob needing a draw to win the match. His opponent had other ideas and played the ending well, swapping rook for bishop to allow his pawns to progress and get the win. Final score on the night 3 - 3, Widnes progress on the board count rule. Unlucky for us but well done to Widnes who play Atticus in the next round, Aigburth 2 play Waterloo in the other Semi.
