DOUBLE HEADER
A busy night at the Cricket Club last week with another 1st and 2nd team double header. The First Team played Formby and came away 5.5-2.5 winners while the Second Team fought hard to gain a 4-4 draw against Atticus 1.
In the 1st team match, Roger, Rob, James and Tony all won with Gerry, Ian and Nick drawing. A comfortable victory!
In the 2nd team match Graham was a pawn down in a rook and pawn ending but held on for a draw as white couldn't make progress. Dave E dropped a piece in an otherwise equal game but Steve G had a nice Bishop sac combination, his opponents non acceptance ultimately only led to defeat. After several of the other boards ended drawn it went to the last two games. Martin was a piece up on board 2 and despite a nervy finish held his nerve for the point. Alistair looked certain to at least draw to win us the match but his opponent had other ideas and turned it around to get the point. The draw leaves us two points ahead of Hoylake who we play in the final match of the season!
