Kiebitzer

John McCormick writes;

In the Dista/Hunts Cross days we also produced a magazine, known first as Dista Chess Club News and later as Kiebitzer, which eventually became the Merseyside chess magazine. Kiebitzer featured serious articles and games from members of different clubs, and with analysis by FM John Littlewood, BCF coaches Nick Hawkins and Ian Campbell and the occasional Grandmaster it was no lightweight, but it also had an irreverent side. In the early days I was distributing copies to Dista CC members in the bar at a Widnes congress. When an IM who was with one of the club asked for a copy we told him he had to become a GM first and only let him have a copy after a good grovel. This theme continued with Steve Pickstock's cartoons, league players' "claims to fame", which made the most tenuous links possible, and with some of the articles and photos - I fondly remember the caption "heading for glory in the raffle" in a photo accompanying a congress report.
